The Glenn Beck Effect

You've heard of "The Oprah Effect?"

Well, today Kathy Shaidle of fivefeetoffury.com reported for Examiner.com that Glenn Beck recommended the book, “A Patriot’s History of the United States: From Columbus’s Great Discovery to the War on Terror by Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen,” on Beck’s radio show on Monday.

Transcript from Glenn Beck's show:

"You must go out and find A Patriot's History of the United States, from Columbus' great discovery to the war on terror by like Schweickart.

It is, I don't even know how long it has been out. What is it, 2005? And it is a history book that Larry Schweickart is a new friend of mine I met, I don't know, a couple of weeks ago.

I did the show, what was it, I did the show, was it just last week we did the show on progressives? Week before last we did the show with the three eggheads on progressives and Larry Schweickart is one of them. And one of the guys, another one of the eggheads said, have you read Patriot's History? And I said, no, I haven't read it. He said, you've got to do it.

I actually called Larry because I didn't know Larry at all. He came highly recommended when we were looking for somebody who understood the progressive movement and didn't know him. And when I introduced him, I said, you know, and he's also written this book and this book.

Afterwards I told him, I said, Larry, I'm sorry, I don't usually have people on the show that I haven't read their work, so I'm sorry that I didn't know. I called him up afterwards about a week after because I read his book and I said, Larry, I can't tell you how sorry I am. You're a superstar.

This book, A Patriot's History of the United States, should be required reading for everybody in the United States."

The 6-year-old book ranked 280,000 on the Amazon. com ratings at the time, she said.

As of 9:00AM ET, 24 hours later, the book is #1.

Said Shaidle, writing for David Horowitz's Newsreal: “Let’s see Keith Olbermann do this.”

Not bad for a "Fatty fat fatso" who defined himself at one time as "A Rodeo Clown."

Looks like America is listening...

Liberals underestimate the Beck effect. I am adding this book to my reading list.

Amazing. People are becoming more and more educated as to what the Progressives have in store for our country, and they don't like it. Thank goodness for Glenn Beck.

If I am not mistaken I have read this book, or maybe he wrote another that I read. It was very detailed; to the point that you can lose interest, but very enlighting.

I agree with Beck on 98% of his views (China trade is one I disagree with him on). His mannerisms drive me nuts, though. It's like watching Bozo the Clown deliver an economics lecture.

better to read beck than listen to beck.

Teresa -

I'm pretty sure nobody saw "the Beck effect" coming.. he's really found a niche that was needed at a time in our history.

Based on that... I agree with TCL - thank goodness for him.

JACG - I have not read it, but I look forward to it.

Fredd - I frequently agree with Beck too, and his mannerisms don't bother me so much. A couple of years (or more) ago he used to call himself a "rodeo clown" and he introduces his radio show with "Hello, you sick twisted freak!"

Those two things told me all I needed to know about him, and I've enjoyed his radio and TV show since.

Jamw96 - More often than not I watch his TV show from a DVR, sitting in front of my PC, and I use my pause button on the DVR a lot. I fact check him constantly (as I try to do with all my news) and I must admit he's extremely accurate - regardless of what the left says about him.
