John Murtha died today after complications from gall bladder surgery. He was 77 years of age.
Unfortunately I do not know a lot about Mr. Murtha. Unfortunately, that which I do know does not speak well of the man.
Mr. Murtha spoke with great contempt and disrespect for our former Commander-in-Chief, in a way that appeared to be entirely partisan and political, rather than well-meaning and sincere. His was not what I would consider honorable representation during the last years of his life.
Sadly, even after they were cleared of all charges, Mr. Murtha never took the time nor had the decency to apologize to the Marines he publicly condemned to guilt before their proper day in court. That is a terrible legacy to leave behind.
I wish his family well, and I hope the reports are true that he passed peacefully.
Thank you for your service in Vietnam, Mr. Murtha. May God have mercy on your soul.

Yes. May God have mery on his soul. Now, off to helping elect a moral representative for Johnstown, Pa.
From a "racist" constituent of Mr. Murtha's (he called us such), I hope God truly does have mercy on him. That doesn't change the fact that John Murtha had no respect for those he represented or our brave soldiers fighting abroad. He treated those Marines the way his fighting brothers were treated after Vietnam. His legacy, sad but true, is one of pork and disgrace.
I'm sure Ted Kennedy has saved him a seat.
