Sebelius: Public Health Care Option "Not The Essential Element"
As reported by The AP, President Barack Obama's administration signaled on Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.
Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul. The White House would be open to co-ops, she said, a sign that Democrats want a compromise so they can declare a victory.
Such a concession probably would enrage Obama's liberal supporters but could deliver a much-needed "victory" on a top domestic priority opposed by GOP lawmakers.

Can't have those approval numbers dipping too far! How can we save this mess? Let's just backtrack a little. I am sure they feel that they can push the rest through at a later time.
Thanks for the add! I am now following your blog, also!!
If they don't get the rest through before the end of the year, they won't want to bring it up in an election year. We can't let up!
It seems to me that the "Insurance Co-ops" they are talking about as an alternative to a public options is merely a stairstep toward the one-payor, government run, universal health care. This is the direction the left wants to go, it's only a question (for them) of how to get there.
I just don't trust them. Any of them. Could be Obama wants the blame for a public option directed at Congress rather than him, so he backs off while Congress passes it.
