ASU Students Pose as Police Officers Asking about Immigration Status

From MyFoxPhoenix.com:

Tempe, AZ -

Police say two Arizona State University students posed as Tempe police officers and targeted their fellow classmates -- asking for their immigration status.

It happened overnight Friday.

Police say that 20-year-old Ryan Alarie and 23-year-old Alexander Devito were hanging around outside the Palo Verde main dorm and asking other students to show their IDs to prove citizenship.

They allegedly claimed to be undercover cops with the Tempe Police.

"They weren't trying to get money or anything like that -- right now it appears like it was just a prank that kind of spiraled out of control -- I don't think they intended for it to get as serious as it turned out to be," said Commander Jim Hardina.

Police say both men admitted to what they were doing, and drinking beforehand. Both Alarie and Devito are facing felony charges of impersonating a police officer.

I hope these idiots are charged to the fullest extent of the law. I don't care what side of the issue they are on in their personal beliefs. Impersonating an officer is a crime and is stupid, and ridiculous acts of intimidation such as this are going to do more harm than good.
