Conservative Porn: Governor Chris Christie on Morning Joe

I have to quote Glenn Beck here... I need a cigarette.

Okay, not really.. I quit, and I never really want one again... but these clips of Governor Chris Christie on MSNBC's Morning Joe are definitely arousing, or sorts...

Complaining about some cuts that need to be made in an effort to reign in a budget deficit in New Jersey, a teacher told Governor Christie:

"You're not compensating me for my education, and you're not compensating me for my experience."

Christie's response:

"Well then, you know what? You don't have to do it. I mean, the simple fact of the matter is this... Teachers go into it knowing what the pay scale is..."

Governor Christie, when asked about this exchange, stated:

"This teacher complaining - they're getting four-to-five percent salary increases a year in a zero percent inflation world; they get free health benefits from the day they're hired - for their entire family - until the day they die.

They believe they're entitled to this shelter from the recession, when the people who are paying for that shelter are the people who have been laid off, who have lost their homes, had their hours cut back.

And all we asked them to do was freeze their salary for one year and pay one-and-a-half percent of their salary for their health benefits.

For the average teacher in New Jersey, you're talking about $750 a year for full-family health coverage.

Now, I don't think that's a lot to ask, and I don't think we can continue anymore to be having the good people of New Jersey who have been laid off and all the rest...

As much as I love teachers - you know, everyone's got to be part of the sacrifice"

"[...] Because the times demand it."

Christie went on to explain that the teacher's union had what he labeled a "Me First" rally, where 35,000 teachers gathered to say, "Pay me first, pay me my health benefits first, pay me my pension first, and everyone else in New Jersey - get to the back of the line."

The teachers union ultimately refused to accept the cuts he asked of them.

Christie has promised to shine a bright light on those such as the New Jersey teacher's union - those who refuse to accept what he considers their fair and reasonable share of the temporary burden as he attempts to bring New Jersey back from the brink of liberal / progressive fiscal disaster.

If Christie doesn't run for president in 2012 or 2016, I'll be greatly disappointed.

Sure Newt Gingrich is smart, and sure Sarah Palin is feisty and gets under the skin of the lunatic fringe. They both have a lot of negatives, though.

Newt has a checkered personal past, which could be overcome, but they'd be a nuisance. If he decides to run, however, I must admit he's probably my first choice right now because he absolutely towers over Obama intellectually, and he truly knows American history and believes in American Exceptionalism.

Palin.. well, as much as we on the right love her message most of the time, the leftist media hates her and will do all they can to destroy her, and unfortunately I'm not sure she's got the game needed to fight that media. She's great doing what she does right now, and probably would be an excellent cabinet choice, perhaps Secretary of Energy? But I don't know about president...

Mitt Romney is a great businessman, and perhaps should be Secretary of Treasury, and Ron Paul, as much as I love his desire to stand his ground on issues like the Fed and the use of our military, just isn't the guy.

But Chris Christie... Chris Christie is doing a better job right now than anyone else at being exactly what we need - a non-politician who tells it exactly like it is, and doesn't care one bit if people like him or not.

Chris Christie is not about Republican, and he's not about his poll numbers... he's about fixing the mess that's been made in the state he loves, and anyone who stands in his way had better watch out.

Not only that, but he's doing all this by speaking simple common sense that anyone not in a union should understand and appreciate... and even some union members will get it and support it, even if they don't immediately like it.

Answering a follow-up question about how to take his message nationwide, Christie stated:

If what you're gonna do is play the same old game, and not speak directly to people, and not treat them (Americans) like adults... then you are bound for failure. All I'm doing is speaking the truth as I see it."

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Chris Christie represents everything I've had to learn in my life because of my past irresponsible ways. Excuse me while I speak from experience - right now the entire nation needs to learn the hard lessons that I've had to learn through my life.

We as individuals must live within a budget. Our representatives should behave no differently while in office than those individuals who elect them. These people are given an enormous trust, and they're not acting trustworthy as of late.

This concept seems to be lost on individuals as soon as they have a political title assigned to their name, especially when it's a title that comes from being inside The Beltway.

Chris Christie is a true voice of common sense in a political world that seems to be completely devoid of common sense, and I think he may be the one person capable of going to Washington and effecting the change that is truly needed to bring America back to prosperity.

I'm totally into Christie. Never been into porn, though. Let's call it "conservative ascendancy". I'm impressed that the MSNBC anchors didn't try harder to make Christie look bad. They treated him pretty well. That is unexpected to me.

Call it what you will.. I admit, I borrowed the "porn" thing from Beck too, because it's hilarious to listen to Beck do his segments about Christie. It's a guy thing too, I suppose.

No matter what we call it, it's awesome to see a person in politics who has such straightforward conviction and speaks with such clarity. It's been a long time.

Even Palin sometimes sounds a bit too much like a "politician," as much as she tends to deliver a good message and rile up the leftists.

I hope the successes in NJ get all the attention they deserve as he reduces the state's debt and brings the budget back in line.

The more I see Christie, the more I like him. He claims he has no interest in running for President. Maybe some day he will change his mind. In the mean time, I hope he is successful in straightening out NJ.

LOVE HIM

He may be wasted for 2012. I think he needs to prove himself in NJ and look at 2016.

I get a lot of flack for saying this ... but I don't think November is going to go as well as we all hope. And, my gut is telling me that BO is a 2 term president. I frequently go back to the phrase "The masses are asses" and apply it to all libs and the "undecided" (seriously, undecided about what?) ... these people will vote in anyone.

I love what I see Christie doing. And I think you're right on with Palin, Romney and Paul. It will be interesting to see what Gingrich does. I just hope that when the Republicans take over again (and they will), they don't go full retard with their ideas and make matters worse. I really wish we could get rid of the guys who have been in office forever and start over with people who could work together with both sides and actually listen to us.

Are you still leaning towards Hayworth?

What is it you like about Christie?
-Increased government spending?
-Tax hikes?
-Acquiescence to Obamacare?
-Soft stance on immigration?
-Opposition to energy exploration and promotionof Cap & Trade?
Or is it all of the above?

I know Christie says he has no interest in running for POTUS, but sometimes it's the least interested and most reluctant who offer the best results.

In the mean time, for the sake of NJ, I too hope he is successful. His ideas, to the best of my understanding, will do the trick - it's how much interference he gets from the unions and other special interests that concerns me.

Hi JACG -

The more I see, the more I like what I see. He seems to be the real deal.

Time will tell...

I think 2016 might be a better opportunity for Christie as well, because he does have to prove himself capable. Unlike liberals, we on the right tend to prefer a leader with some experience and a history of positive results, because we are well aware that fighting with RINO's and leftists on the Hill will challenge even the most staunch Conservative.

Regarding Obama being a 2-termer... I understand your though there. I believe that as the economy goes - but really as GM specifically goes - so goes Obama's chances for a 2nd term. If GM truly recovers - and specifically if Obama's billion $$ pet project the Volt do well, he stands a chance.

Of course, a lot of it also hinges on the media, who we all know have largely been in the tank for him. If they turn on him - it's all over.

Hey Tammy -

I think 2012 is Newt's candidacy, if he runs. He's absolutely the most experienced, the most knowledgeable, and the most well known commodity the right has.

I'm glad to hear you agree about Palin, Paul and Romney (sounds like a 60's hippie-rock band?). I'd prefer Mitt second to Newt, and therefore first if Newt doesn't enter.

I know Mitt's shown RINO tendencies, but I think he's learned a little lesson about some of those issues from his past... and really what we need most is fiscal responsibility. Newt or Mitt both offer that.

And good ol' JD.. yes, I'm still in his corner. I'm a little disappointed in a couple of things he's done. Not so much the infomercial - he was trying to make a living and put food on the table at the time, and he wasn't in office. What bothered me most was his attempt to associate Sheriff Babeu with skinheads / White Supremists. That was a little out of line, and I expect better of him.

Unfortunately, with JD we get a former talk-show host, and that's both good and bad. His time behind the mic gave him a chance to connect with people and really understand the issues as they are today, in 2010 Arizona.

Unfortunately, he's also got that "shock 'em for attention" thing still in his head, and he's said some really stupid stuff.

I'll vote JD in the primary, and if McCain wins that then I'll support McCain in the general. Better a RINO than a leftist, I suppose.

Welcome, I haven't seen you here before.

I am not a resident of NJ, so I don't know everything about Christie, but I like what we are shown at the national level.

If you have some information you'd like to share, please - offer some links to articles from reputable sources. I'd be happy to check them out, as I'm sure all commenting here would be.

In the mean time, if you don't have any hard evidence, please don't do drive-by slamming opinion-style.

Like I said - if you've got facts, I'm glad to learn more, because right now he's the best story I've seen in a long time.
